The Academic folklore and ethnographic orchestra “Otyrar Sazy” named after N.Tlendiev, created in 1982, provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the richest collection of Kazakh national musical instruments – modern and ancient, which have come down to us from the depths of centuries. In addition to dombra and kobyz, the orchestra plays ancient instruments such as – zhetygen, sherter, shan-kobyz, mes-kobyz, syrnai and saz-syrnai, sybyzgy, as well as percussion instruments – asatayak, dauylpaz, tuyak-tas, konyrau, kayrak. The first artistic director and chief conductor, People’s Artist of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize, Halyk Kaharmany, prominent public figure, composer Nurgisa Tlendiev managed to prove that ancient folk instruments are capable of embodying not only works of small forms, but also large dramatic designs. Today, the orchestra is led by N.Tlendiev’s daughter Dinara Tlendieva, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, holder of the Order of “Kurmet”. The conductors are Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhalgasbek Begendikov, laureate of international and national competitions Abilkayyrkhan Beisekov. The orchestra actively performs concerts in the cities of Kazakhstan and in the countries of the near and far abroad.
