Today – January 14, 1935, by the decree of the Council of people’s commissars of the Kazakh SSR, the day of the establishment of the Kara shanyrak – Kazakh State Philharmonic Society. In 1938, the Philharmonic was named after the song giant Zhambyl. In 2023, by the decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, academic status was granted. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Kazakh state academic Philharmonic named after Zhambyl, which is known not only in our country, but also far and near abroad.
The Philharmonic was opened on the initiative of the outstanding musicologist, composer, conductor, people’s artist of the Kazakh SSR, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Akhmet Zhubanov. In different years, the Philharmonic was headed by E. Brusilovsky, M. Koishybayev, S. Mukhamedzhanov, E. Rakhmadiyev, B. Amangeldiev, M. Bestibayev, T. Ibraev, A. Dauytbayev, T. Alpiyev, M. Uteuov and other major representatives of the cultural sphere.

For the first time in the history of our national art, legendary figures Dina Nurpeisova, Amre Kashaubayev, Kali Zhantileuov, Muslim and Rashid Abdullins, Kulyash Baiseitova, Shara Zhienkulova, Jamal Omarova, Zhusupbek Yelebekov, Roza Baglanova and Bibigul Tulegenova, whose 95th anniversary was celebrated this year, worked within the walls of the Philharmonic Society. There are many soloists, led by Nurgali Nusipzhanovich, who followed in the footsteps of the great ones.
The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after T. Abdrashev, the academic folklore and ethnographic orchestra named after N. Tlendiev “Otrar Sazy”, the state brass band of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Choir chapel named after B. Baikadamov and the state string quartet named after G. Zhubanova, the state Pine Brass Quintet, the state classical guitarists quintet, as well as soloists known abroad.

In the repertoire of Philharmonic groups and soloists, more than 20,000 works by classical Kazakh and foreign composers have been continuously performed for 90 years. The creative team still has a lot to give to the country.
