The “Otyrar Sazy” Orchestra performed in Ulytau

On the Republic Day of Kazakhstan, the Nurgisa Tlendiyev Academic Folk-Ethnographic Orchestra “Otyrar Sazy” toured to Ulytau and presented a special concert program for local audiences.

The concert, held at the S. Kozhamkulov Regional Kazakh Musical Drama Theatre in Zhezkazgan, was conducted by Honored Artist of Kazakhstan and professor Zhalgasbek Begendikov, together with laureate of international and national competitions Abylkhairkhan Beysekov.

The evening left a vivid impression, featuring Nurgisa Tlendiyev’s timeless works—“Ata Tolgauy,” “Kosh-Keruen,” “Saryzhailau,” “Akku,” “Makhambet,” and “Oz Elim”—alongside folk songs and kuis, Sugir’s “Bozingen,” Latif Khamidi’s “Kazakh Waltz,” Kenzhebek Kumisbekov’s “Bishi Qayin,” and Dariga Tlendykelini’s “Mangilik Elim.”

A highlight of the program was the “Kui Tartýs” (a virtuoso duel of kui performers) with the participation of Culture Merit holder Abai Qoishybayev and laureates Dastan Kazkenov and Nurgali Ashimkhan, which stirred the audience and raised spirits.

The finale featured “Atameken,” with lyrics by Qadır Myrza Äli and music by Eskendir Khasangaliev—now regarded as an anthem of national spirit. The audience’s enthusiasm was so strong that, by popular demand, “Otyrar Sazy” performed the concert twice, underscoring Ulytau residents’ deep respect for national art.

On the second day of the tour, the ensemble paid tribute to the ancestors by visiting the mausoleum of Jochi Khan, founder of the Golden Horde. Thus, through national art, the orchestra honored both history and culture, bringing true festive joy to the people of Zhezkazgan on the country’s special day.
