A 90-year Milestone: The Zhambyl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic Celebrates Its Anniversary

A festive gala concert dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Zhambyl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic – the golden core of national art – took place at the Palace of the Republic.

Before the concert, veterans of the philharmonic, honored guests, prominent cultural figures, and the audience were presented with an exhibition prepared by the Almaty Museums Association and the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The exhibition showcased the history of the philharmonic and the life and creative legacy of Nurgisa Tlendiev.

At the jubilee concert, Deputy Akim of Almaty Abzal Nukenov read out a congratulatory message from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President’s letter stated:
“I congratulate you on the 90th anniversary of the Zhambyl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic! This is a significant milestone in the history of national musical art. Founded by the renowned Akhmet Zhubanov, the philharmonic has made a great contribution to reviving the spiritual heritage of our people, expanding the horizons of our culture, and promoting Kazakh songs and kyuis around the world. Many prominent figures who left an invaluable mark on our national spirituality have performed on this sacred stage.”

Congratulations also came from Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament Yerlan Koshanov, the Ministry of Culture and Information, Akim of Almaty Darkhan Satybaldy, Akim of Atyrau Region Serik Shapkenov, and Deputy Akim of Kyzylorda Region Meirambek Shermaganbet. Cultural institutions from various regions of Kazakhstan and international partners also sent their greetings.

All leading creative ensembles of the philharmonic performed on stage, showcasing a unique blend of national music and contemporary classical styles.

The concert program featured works by prominent Kazakh composers, including Nurgisa Tlendiev, Mukhan Tolebayev, Erkegali Rakhmadiyev, Tiles Kazhgaliyev, and Adil Bestybayev. Listeners also enjoyed pieces by world classics such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Antonio Vivaldi, and Pablo de Sarasate.

The evening was not only a musical celebration, but also a demonstration of deep cultural exploration, uniting tradition with contemporary artistic expression.

At the end of the concert, the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Almaty city administration, and several cultural institutions presented bouquets as a gesture of appreciation to the philharmonic’s creative ensembles.

The 90-year history of the Zhambyl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic represents a golden era of Kazakh music. This event highlighted the grandeur of national art and left the audience with unforgettable impressions.
