Today in Almaty, the Zhambyl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic hosted a solemn concert titled “Ata Tolghauy” (The Elder’s Reflection), dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev. The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Zhambyl State Philharmonic, and the Akimat of Almaty Region.
The concert featured performances by the N. Tlendiyev Academic Folklore and Ethnographic Orchestra “Otyrar Sazy,” the B. Baikadamov State Choral Chapel, soloists of the Philharmonic, and artists from the Almaty region.
The event was attended by Malik Otarbayev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY); Mereke Kulkenov, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan; representatives of the Akimats of Almaty city and Almaty region; and members of the intelligentsia.
As part of the concert program, the “Otyrar Sazy” orchestra and Almaty region artists performed works by M. Mangitayev, E. Usenov, and L. Khamidi. The legacy of Dina Nurpeisova, the “Mother of Kui,” whose 165th anniversary is also celebrated this year, was honored with a performance of the kui “Nauysky” by Bayan Satkyzy.
People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Ramazan Stamgaziyev gave a masterful rendition of Zhambyl’s song “Zhyirma Bes,” receiving a warm reception from the audience. Special guests, led by People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakytbek Tilegenov, participated in the evening, illustrating the shared history of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz peoples through beautiful melodies.
An exhibition organized in collaboration with the Zhambyl House-Museum was opened in the Philharmonic foyer, where visitors could view precious artifacts belonging to the “Giant of Poetry.”
