The Philharmonic was established on January 14, 1935, by a resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Kazakh SSR. In 1938, it was named after the great akyn Zhambyl, and in 2023 it attained academic status, reaching a new stage of creative development.
The history of the Philharmonic’s founding is closely connected with the name of the prominent musicologist, composer, conductor, People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR, and academician Akhmet Zhubanov. Over the years, the ensemble was led by outstanding cultural figures such as E.Brusilovsky, M.Koishybayev, S.Mukhamedzhanov, E.Rakhmadiyev, B.Amangeldiyev, M.Bestibayev, T.Ibrayev, A.Dauytbayev, T.Alpiev, and M.Oteuov, who shaped the Philharmonic’s artistic direction.
This stage has hosted legendary masters of national art whose names are engraved in history in golden letters: Dina Nurpeisova, Amre Kashaubayev, Kali Zhantileuov, Muslim and Rashid Abdullin, Kulyash Baiseitova, Shara Zhiyenkulova, Zhamal Omarova, Zhusupbek Yelebekov, Roza Baglanova, and Bibigul Tulegenova.
Today, the honor of the Philharmonic is upheld by the T. Abdrashev State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the N. Tlendiev Academic Folklore and Ethnographic Orchestra “Otyrar Sazy,” the State Wind Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the B. Baykadamov State Choral Capella, the G. Zhubanova State String Quartet, the State Woodwind Quintet, the State Classical Guitarists Quintet, and other renowned performers who proudly present the high level of Kazakh art both nationally and internationally.
The Zhambyl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic will continue to be a beacon of national art, enriching our spiritual world with sublime music.
