On September 4, 2025, the Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic Hall in Almaty hosted a concert commemorating the 120th anniversary of the birth of renowned Chinese composer Xian Xinghai, as well as the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The event was supported by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty.
The concert featured performances by the T. Abdrashev State Academic Symphony Orchestra and the B. Baikadamov State Choir of Kazakhstan. The program included significant works by Xian Xinghai, such as the symphonic poem “Amangeldy” and the cantata “Yellow River,” as well as pieces like “Kazakh Dances” and “In the Taihang Mountains,” symbolizing the cultural unity between the two nations. In his opening remarks, Zhanibek Abdrashov, head of the Almaty office of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the profound friendship between Kazakhstan and China, emphasizing the enduring legacy of Xian Xinghai’s music. Chinese Consul General Jiang Wei recalled the historical ties between the two countries, noting that Xian Xinghai was stranded in Almaty during World War II, where he formed a close friendship with Kazakh composer Bakhytzhan Baikadamov. Their bond has become a symbol of the enduring friendship between the Chinese and Kazakh peoples.
At the conclusion of the evening, flowers were presented on behalf of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic Hall continues to implement international cultural initiatives that promote intergovernmental cooperation and strengthen humanitarian ties.
