The G. Zhubanova State String Quartet, incorporated into the Philharmonic in 1995, is considered one of the best Kazakh chamber ensembles. The history of the quartet began in 1988 under the guidance of the teacher of the Akhmet Zhubanov Republican School for Gifted Children, Dina Mikhailovna Churenova. One of the ideological inspirers is the People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR, composer Gaziza Zhubanova, whose name was given to the Kazakh Quartet. In 1995, due to its active competitive and concert activities, having received recognition at home, the quartet received state status. The artistic director is the Honored Worker of Kazakhstan Ernar Myntaev (cello). The quartet consists of Aidar Toktaliev (first violin), Alexey Lebedev (second violin), Bekzat Sailaubayuly (viola). The most significant page in the biography of the quartet is the close collaboration with the titan of quartet art, the founder of the quartet. Borodin by Valentin Alexandrovich Berlinsky. Gaining experience from the best quartet schools in the world, GSK acquire their own unique sound that strikes the hearts of true lovers of high-quality quartet music. Awards: 1993 – Sakharov Award (Moscow), 1995 – I place at the international competition of chamber orchestras “Golden Autumn” (Khmelnitsky, Ukraine), 1999 – III place at the international competition of string quartets named after Shostakovich (Moscow), 2001 – III place at the international competition of string quartets named after Shostakovich (Moscow), Grand Prix and President’s Cup at the international competition “Shabyt”, Grand Prix at the international competition “Rovere d’Oro” (San Bartalomeo, Italy), II place at the international competition “Bellini” (Sicily, Italy), finalists of the international competition (Bordeaux, France), 2004. – II place at the International Shostakovich String Quartet Competition (Moscow), 2005. – II place at the International String Quartet Competition (Osaka, Japan, diploma for the best ensemble “Escuela Superior de musika Reina Sofia”, awarded personally by the Queen of Spain.
